Pre-Care: Prepare For Excellent Results

MICROLUXEbeauty Magazine

Volume V - The First Monthly Issue

Having a strict aftercare regimen is a given for any kind of body-altering procedure, but did you know that the pre-care instructions for semi-permanent cosmetics are just as (if not more) important? Nothing is worse than spending a bunch of money on a procedure and then not doing your part to ensure amazing results.

HEALED RESULTS

Many factors play into the healed results of any semi-permanent makeup procedure, and it’s important to remember that most of them are out of your artist’s control. In fact, most of them are only in your control. Your final healed results directly correlate with how closely you followed pre-care instructions. Here’s how:

For the best results, your pre-care should begin about 3 months prior to your appointment date. It’s important to avoid botox, laser, chemical peels, and any other type of exfoliating procedure 90 days before your appointment.

Why avoid botox? For the best results, it is recommended to do any semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo before having a botox treatment. Botox alters your natural skin anatomy, then eventually fades away. If we were to create symmetrical brows with your botoxed features, once the botox fades away, you may be left with brows that don’t settle where you wanted them.

Why avoid exfoliants? Semi-permanent cosmetic procedures are only working in the first layers of skin. If you do exfoliating treatments before your cosmetic tattoo, the skin is much thinner on the top layer which can cause the ink to penetrate too deep (causing blurred and cool-tone results).

Within the 2 weeks before your appointment, be sure to avoid tweezing, waxing, electrolysis, brow coloring, or applying retinoids.

Why avoid hair removal or altering of the procedure area when preparing to receive microblading? Aside from not wanting to irritate the skin in the procedure area, the artist needs to be able to see your natural hair growth.

Why avoid retinoids? Retinol and other retinoids can cause the pigment to change color and fade prematurely.

Now, the pre-care instructions that can have the biggest effect on your healed results are the ones that come into play within the 48 hours before your appointment.

Not following these instructions could be detrimental to your healed results. Highlight this. Write it down. Set a reminder.

Do NOT consume ANY blood thinners within 48 hours of your procedure. This includes aspirin, ibuprofen, pain killers, caffeine (please do not bring a coffee to your appointment! you will not be able to proceed), vitamin E and fish oil, alcohol, and smoking, etc. If you can help it, it is also recommended to avoid booking during your menstrual cycle.

Consuming blood thinners within 48 hours of your appointment (yes, I’m serious. no coffee on the morning of!) can cause excessive bleeding during the procedure. Bleeding can prevent the proper absorption of the pigment in the micro-cuts which can lead to patchy results. What a waste of pain and money!

Only so much is in the control of your artist, and the rest is up to you. If you’re not sure about something, ask! Your artist is there to ensure you end up with the best results!
