Sweat-Proof Makeup

Semi-permanent cosmetics are an awesome makeup solution for the #fitgirl. For starters, you never have to worry about sweating off your makeup in the gym, or clogging your pores trying to look flawless-faced while working out. But it’s important to take note of a couple of things. One of the main contributing factors to how your permanent cosmetic procedure heals is your lifestyle. Let’s say, twin sisters, with the same exact skin type, got their eyebrows microbladed together. One sister is a fitness coach, in the gym 7 days a week, and the other works in an office where she sometimes goes on a walk during her lunch break. Each set of brows will most likely heal differently. Especially if our fit girl can’t stay away from the gym during her 2 weeks of healing.

"Wake up beauty, it's time to beast."

Exercise & A Healing Procedure

Let’s start with this: it is very important to avoid exercising and excessive sweating during the first 7-14 days after your permanent cosmetic procedure. Why, you ask? Not only do you want to keep the area dry to allow the skin to breathe (which promotes healing), sweat comes from inside of the skin and can push the pigment to the surface. This can cause the ink to have less retention in the skin. Additionally, sweat can expose the treated area to bacteria, and the last thing you want on your new brows (or lips) is an infection! After 14 days, your skin has healed a protective barrier.

If you can’t wait that long, light exercising like walking or gentle yoga is okay after 48 hrs… as long as you don’t sweat!

Fully Healed. Now what?

Back to our twin sisters. For this scenario, we’ll say that both sisters completed their healing process in the same manner — no working out or excessive sweating. Their results are very similar.

People who live a more fit lifestyle may require more frequent touch-ups than people who don’t. When you exercise, your heart rate increases, improving blood circulation. The benefits of this improved blood circulation are delivering oxygen to the skin which promotes collagen production and new skin cells.

Now, remember that semi-permanent cosmetics are not penetrating very deep into the skin to avoid permanent damage. Our active twin sister’s skin may be generating new cells at a quicker rate than our corporate twin, which can cause her treatment to fade faster than her sister’s. The result? A possibility of more frequent *therapy sessions* with your PMU artist!
